It was in the 89th year AEKE. Filled with fury and centuries old hate against their elven descendancy orks were on one of their many raids against Kingdom of Etrand. Targets were usually remote villages or small border towns. This time their target was one of rather bigger border towns – Edelheim. The town already had own church, so despite being a border town the place was under a considerable influence of the modern high elven religion. In return for their faith people were promised a lot of things, including divine protection from any harm. It didn’t do any good when the orks arrived at this night of late Moribel. Whole town was mercilessly slaughtered and burnt down with aura of orkish hate against elves floating in the air. But they weren’t the only ones who were so hateful. Many human denizens of the town sought shelter in the local church. Their hopes were in vain, the promises of divine protection were a mere lie used by the religious zealots to manipulate people. Folk that gathered in front of the church and was denied not only a shelter but any sort of support realised that it was treated like cattle by the church, church created on high elven spirituality. The flame of hate against elves lit inside them as the flames of burning town reached their bodies. As they saw their loved ones die in agony they cursed the church, the elves, and the orks who so suddenly brought death upon them. The town was burned to the ground, church included.

Early in the morning everything was reduced to ashes and only the embers were left. Though, suddenly, the rubble was engulfed by flames and from it a human-shaped creature was born. It had form of a young human male with hair grey like ashes and eyes blue like those of people who formerly lived in this place. His clothes were grey shirt and pants made of some rough material and a long black like a burnt wood coat. Flames were surrounding him, behind his back some sort of fiery wings could be seen from time to time. Born from the flames he was like a phoenix in a human form, not knowing his name, only the language of people from whose ashes he has arisen and the hate. Hate burning hotter than anything this town experience during this tragic night. Since at moment he wandered around the world, never staying in one place for too long and usually, especially at the beginning, avoiding any inhabited areas. He didn’t hesitate when he saw an elf, he killed without hesitation, looting and disposing of the corpse. But despite being a being born of burning hate, he was also in some way a human, so he started to adapt and form some sort of unique character, as a human should have. His nature was very decisive, not impulsive though, rather gloomy and calm, what wouldn’t be expected from someone associated with fire, maybe with how Edelheim looked after the massacre. The hate remained unchanged, some grim rumours were being spread among some elven lands he has crossed. He was a formidable foe, even if someone managed to kill him, he did rise again later, time long enough for him to want to leave the area and head somewhere else. Eventually, the rumours were taking a more concrete form, instead of the “hateful monster”, “human-like phoenix”, “embodiment of flames” and other epithets given to him by scared country folk, he started to be called Ignatius, as in many languages it did resemble the word for “fire”.

As he adapted to the world he started to be more civilised and even communicated with humans. He did feel sympathy for any xenophobic tendencies, ones that were aimed at elves, of course. One day he was passing through some wilderness while being on one of his travels, then he saw an interesting scene. A single scout, a Wood Elf, was disturbed by a... fairy. That’s not how a usual fairy would act, anyone would think. They don’t confront any species frontally, and definuetly don’t seek combat, even though they can’t permanently die. They are pretty individualistic, though, this one looked pretty belligerent and apparently she didn’t like to leave the elf unharmed. Ignatius was through the period of automatic aggression towards these species, so he observed what happened. At some moment he thought that he would rather intervene and kill the elf himself, he was sort of an elemental after all so he didn’t feel like letting elf defeat a fairy, which he didn’t expect to be capable of defeating another humanoid. To his surprise it didn’t take long until the elf became a future corpse in ice cube. Fairies usually don’t kill, at least not intentionally. Apparently this one didn’t care what will happen to the poor loser and instead she faced an approaching human. It was the time when Ignatius, who already knew the name given to him by others, found his first and so far only friend – an ice fairy going by the name Cirry. Since then they’ve been travelling together mostly looking for some challenges or whatever that could keep them busy. Eternal life can teach the real meaning of boredom, after all.
